In Key
West harbor, in the backcountry creeks or on the
flats we find them and take you to them. Fishing for
tarpon year round. I have caught tarpon with my
clients every day of the year here in Key West. In
my findings and the logs I have saved through the
years of fishing here in Key West I have found that
its always tarpon season. The differences are where
they are and how they are acting. Yes, we do get
more and sometimes easier fish in the spring but our
fish year round can be just as much fun.
Here
is how the different times of the year break down.
The Really Big Tarpon
Our big Gulf of Mexico tarpon are here in Key West during the months of
January, February, March, April, May and June. These fish can reach sizes
upwards to 150lbs and bigger. Charters here range from 1 - 6 person on
either one of my boats. 3, 4, 6, and 8 hours trips are available. Tell us
what your time frame is and will make it work.
Tarpon on the Flats of Key West
Traditionally our tarpon Migration starts around the months of April and
May. Putting some very feisty fish up on the flats here in Key West with
days that I have seen 400-600 fish in less than 3 ft of water. This makes
for great sport on fly and light spin tackle. 1, 2 or 3 person charters
departing daily 4,6,8 hours early morning - evening
Baby Tarpon
In the mangroves and back Islands our smaller fish are a great sport in the months of
August, September and
October. 1 - 4 person charters. Fly fishing and light spin gear provided. This
tarpon fishery is an early morning sport, after the fishing slows then a
traditional flats fishing trip follows to complete the day and your Grand
Slam.
Fly Fishing For Tarpon
I Generally will not take reservations for this type
of fishing till about the first week in May. The
fish get on the flats as they migrate down the edge
of the beaches making their way to the north. This
makes for a great shot with the fly in shallow
