Wreck and Reef Fishing
Key West
is littered with wrecks and has one of the longest
barrier reefs in the world. There is a ton of fun to
be had out there for any angler no matter
experience. Our boats are set up to fish for
anything we encounter We offer trips to the wrecks
and reefs off of Key West in the Gulf and Atlantic
waters on a daily basis and based on weather.
Fishing
the wrecks one can encounter Permit, Cobia, Huge
Barracudas, Goliath Groupers, Amber jacks, Jack
Crevale, Grouper, snappers and more. Bring your
strong arms for a fun day of fishing.
The Reef
is huge and stretches way past the Dry Tortugas
offering some very fertile fishing grounds. Fishing
the reef one can expect some fantastic bottom
fishing for Grouper, Mutton Snapper, Yellowtail
Snapper, Hogfish, Amber jacks, King fish, Spanish
Mackerel, Black fin Tuna, Sailfish, Wahoo, Dolphin,
Huge Barracudas, Sharks, Cobia, and many more. This
is a high energy trip so pack a lunch.
Fishing
the deeper waters can be a bit strenuous at times
and some of you that suffer from motion sickness
will want to prepare your self accordingly.
The
Boats we use for these types of trips.
Our
32 ft Yellowfin Center Console
is equipped with twin engines and rides as smooth as
silk. With plenty of room for 6 persons we generally
only fish with 4 on this trip. The boat has a
bathroom and some shade with cavernous cooler space
for food and drinks and what you may want to kill
for dinner. This boat is made for long distance runs
as far out as the Dry Tortugas and designed to
handle heavy seas safely and swiftly. State of the
art electronics with the best in safety equipment
including satellite phone and weather with EPIRB.
Our
Yellowfin Yachts 24 bay boat
does an amazing job fishing people on the near shore
reefs and wrecks on weather permitting days. A
great trip on this boat is the Marquesas Keys for
flats and near shore wrecks and reefs offering my
clients what we call the "All In Wonder" experience.
Both inshore and offshore fishing all in one day. An
original trip that we came up with a few years ago.
The
type of tackle and techniques
Live
bait is the best way to bottom fish with some
alternatives using jigs and some artificial lures.
Chumming and dead baiting for some species as well.
Both Conventional and spinning gear are provided for
you with the best in line and tackle. See my
equipment page for more details.
Fly
fishing is also a fun way to spend your day on the
wrecks and reefs here in Key West. You can throw a
fly at anything to see if it will eat. Too much fun
to be had. Both boats are specially equipped to
handle fly rods safely and the casting decks are
designed with fly fishermen in mind. I supply fly
rods or you can bring your own. I have rods ranging
from 6 - 12 wt with intermediate and floating lines.
For added convenience I have all sizes matched up
with right and left hand retrieve.. I will also
supply the flies as well.
